• GTC opened Galeria Jurajska in Czestochowa
• A regional mall of 130,000 sqm total area has attracted leading international and Polish retailers
• More than 350 000 customers visited Jurajska in the first 12 days of operations
On 3 October 2009 Globe Trade Centre S.A. (GTC) opened its third modern shopping centre in Poland – Galeria Jurajska. The size and the location of Galeria, as well as the quality of its tenant mix, positions Galeria Jurajska as a regional mall, attracting clients not only from Częstochowa and surrounding cities, but also tourists and drivers visiting or stopping by in Częstochowa.
Galeria Jurajska is located at 207 Wojska Polskiego street, in the centre of Częstochowa, next to DK1 – Poland’s most important highway. The mall has also an excellent access to public transportation, with 9 local and 6 regional bus lines stopping literally in front of the building.
Galeria Jurajska comprises 130,000 sqm of total area, including a multilevel parking facility for 1900 cars.
Galeria has 49,000 sqm of retail space accommodating 200 shops and is nearly 100% let.
The shopping centre offers an excellent tenant mix including top international and Polish retailers as anchor tenants: Peek & Cloppenburg, Inditex Group with Zara, Bershka and Stradivarius, H&M, C&A, Reserved, New Yorker, Kappahl, Cubus, Cinema City multiplex, Alma delicatessen and two electronic stores Mega Avans and EURO AGD RTV, as well as EMPIK store.
The total cost of investment in Galeria Jurajska amounted to EUR140m, including more than EUR 8m invested in the surrounding road infrastructure.
The construction of Galeria Jurajska had a very positive impact on the development of Częstochowa. Revitalisation of this post-industrial site completely changed the landscape of the area, transforming the once -neglected place into one of the most important landmarks of the city.
Construction of Galeria Jurajska created 1500-2000 jobs. Furthermore, approx. 1500 people will find jobs with retailers and service companies in Galeria Jurajska, which is confirmed by the recent official employment statistics.
On 14 October 2009 during the Grand Opening ceremony Mr. Eli Alroy, the Chairman of GTC Supervisory Board handed over the keys to Galeria Jurajska to the Mayor of Częstochowa Mr. Tadeusz Wrona. In addition GTC donated funds to the local charity organisation.
“The warm welcome by all city authorities with the leadership of the Mayor gave us the push we needed to invest our resources here in Czestochowa and not elsewhere. Galleria Jurajska is the biggest project in the city and the crowds of customers we have been seeing in Galeria since the opening proves that such a development was very much needed here” – said Eli Alroy.
“Development of Galeria Jurajska is a good example of co-operation between an investor and the local authorities. The impact of results of such co-operation goes well beyond the site of the mall. GTC’s investment creates new jobs for Częstochowa, raising standard of living for its residents. Galeria Jurajska will offer not only a new range of shopping and entertainment opportunities but also a place for cultural and social events. – said Mr. Tadeusz Wrona, the Mayor of Częstochowa”.
On 14 October 2009 Galeria Jurajska organized many attractions to its clients, including a live concert by Natalia Kukulska and fireworks show outside Galeria. On the same evening the contest for the shoppers was finalized, with the main prize – Mitsubishi Lancer.
“We could not think of a more happy end of the contest. The car went to a young English teacher from Częstochowa, and it actually happened on a Teacher’s Day” – said Piotr Myszka, Operating Director of Galeria Jurajska.
Galeria Jurajska was designed by LaguardaLow from the US and Polish architects from APA Wojciechowski. Strabag was a general contractor, while Tebodin SAP was a project manager. Jones Lang LaSalle has been an exclusive leasing agent for the project. Bank Pekao S.A. provides financing for Galeria Jurajska.
